Sardis Leadership Class

Purpose:

The purpose of student leadership at Sardis Secondary is to encourage our school to be positive and inclusive and to inspire others to make a difference in the school, community, and world.

Description:

Leadership is a project-based course that requires students to actively participate in the organizing of purposeful school and community events, such as assemblies, dances, fundraisers, spirit activities, community events, etc.

Assessment:

Students complete a binder for each project that they undertake in the course. This is worth 70% of their mark, but is averaged together with an assessment of their leadership skills. Students are evaluated based on four leadership qualities:
  1. Commitment
  2. Initiative
  3. Support for others
  4. Communication
The remaining 30% of students' grades is based on participation in class and at events.

Expectations

Students are given a lot of responsibility to plan major school events, and are expected to represent the school in a positive manner. Students are expected to maintain high standards of behavior in all of their classes and outside of class time.
